Grouse Lighting Aoteroa provides innovative design solutions. We are dedicated to continual improvement of our products and services. We provide our clients with a consultative creative design process with the aim of providing extra value to their event.

Grouse Lighting was formed in 1982 by Allan McShane to supply the Wellington theatre and music industry with high quality rental lighting equipment. Over the years Grouse has grown to encompass all areas of the theatre lighting industry. Whilst theatre, dance and concert lighting are still our forte we have expanded to supply many other industry sectors including opera, film, corporate events, and outdoor spectacles. Our five key focus areas are design, rental, rigging, equipment and consumable sales, and technical servicing.

We are a design led company and approach all our work from a design perspective whether it is an Opera, a corporate themed cocktail function, or a children’s Christmas party. We always deliver to our clients, an event, that is not only technically excellent but also artistically and visually exciting. This philosophy is not only evident in our lighting of shows but also encompasses the way in which we organize and structure our rigging systems, power distribution, safety systems and work environment.

Grouse Lighting is now established as one of New Zealand’s leading theatre hire and sales houses. We are exclusive suppliers of lighting equipment to the New Zealand Opera Company. We are the preferred suppliers to the Wellington Convention Centre and to Multi Media Systems Ltd. We are also the principle lighting suppliers to the New Zealand International Arts Festival and  Downstage Theatre.

Our crew of lighting technicians are all highly trained professionals. We are able to rely on them to fulfil any role in any given situation whilst also actively developing their key interest areas whether it be design, show operation or rigging systems. Along with our permanent staff we have an excellent pool of casuals ranging from designers, mechanists to loaders. Our staff provides us with the dynamic mix to cater for large events while maintaining and caring for our core clients.
We market a full range of lighting equipment including industry names such as L.S.C., Swefog, Theatrelight, Selecon and Strand. These distributorships and agencies allow us to supply quality equipment for theatre, schools, film, club and architectural installations. Our commitment to quality and service without compromise has led to our exclusive New Zealand agency for L.S.C. Electronics - a world leader in control systems design and manufacture.

We have a comprehensive stock of lighting Gel covering the Rosco and Chris James ranges. As an importer of theatre lamps we are able to offer competitive pricing on lamp supply. We also carry and supply black wrap, gaffer and electrical tape.
